What is a Yoga and Detox Retreat?
This is a retreat to help you remove environmental and dietary toxins from the body for optimum health. This is not a treatment for drug and alcohol problems, although this can be very helpful after the client has already done a treatment center and has already been off alcohol for a month or more. There are many different types of detoxes. The detox retreats we offer are gentle on the system. We gently wean our clients from challenging foods to digest:
Preparing for a Detox:
Week 1: Exchange cane sugar for raw honey, stevia, or agave Week 2: Exchange flour for whole grains Week 3: Exchange coffee for green tea, Yerba mate, or guayusa Week 4: Exchange alcohol for kava tea, yoga, baths, exercise, counselor, EFT, or whatever calms you Week 5: Retreat Weekend
A detox diet is a short-term diet that: minimizes the amount of chemicals ingested and emphasizes foods that provide vitamins, nutrients, and antioxidants that the body needs for detoxification. The diet contains foods that are high in fiber and water to help draw out and eliminate the toxins by increasing the frequency of bowel movements and urination and eliminating the input of toxic foods and environments.
Benefits of Detoxing: The chemicals we ingest daily through food, water, and air often become deposited in our fat cells. Also, many of our diets lack certain nutrients which can impair our natural ability to detoxify chemicals, which leads to further build up. This build often leads to illness, hormone imbalance, impaired immune function, nutritional deficiency, and an inefficient metabolism.
Testing: You can to lab tests to see if you have a build up of toxins in your body: Great Smokies Diagnostic Labs offers tests that assess urine, stools, blood, and liver function. Many Western Medical Doctors are not trained in this holistic method, so often it is best to see a Naturopathic Doctor to be tested.
